Best Rock Climbs in The Lake District
Another fantastic week of sunny weather here in the Lake District. And yes we've been making the most of it, checking out a few climbing venues.
First up was Eagle crag in Grisedale. Don't let the guidebook approach time of 1 hour 30 minutes put you off. It's more like 1 hour of mostly easy walking along the valley floor. The crag offers good climbing on mostly solid rock, although protection can feel sparse! We enjoyed a couple of great VS routes. Being the only people at the crag, we had the pick of the routes too, always nice.
We also managed a quick visit to Gimmer crag. The jewel of Langdale climbing, or is that the jewel of Lakeland climbing? This crag is absolutely brilliant, with route after route providing top quality climbing on amazing rock. Given warm, dry conditions I can't think of anywhere in the world i'd rather be than climbing on Gimmer crag. Yes, it really is that good. Our chosen route today was 'Samaritan corner'. This looked a bit dirty from below, but was actually completely clean and provided brilliant climbing all the way.
Meanwhile Anna & Sam were enjoying the fine positions on nearby Asterix, another 3 star VS to make any climber smile all the way.
