What we can offer
The styles of running we offer are: Fell / mountain running – characterised by longer ascents and higher mountain terrain, sometimes on vague paths. A local shorter route is Wansfell Pike, whilst a typical longer route would be the Fairfield horseshoe at 16km and around 1000m of ascent. Sky running – this has increased in popularity in recent years and is the next step from Fell running and involves elements of rocky ridge running. Depending on the route taken, expect some walking too. The classic Lakeland route is Striding and Swirral Edges on Helvellyn. This can be started from various locations but around 12km and 1000m of ascent can be expected. We know many more sky running routes that are less exposed, for those not having a head for heights.
Trail running – these routes will be predominantly in the valleys and stay on good tracks most of the time. There will be a mix of bridleway and footpath and a reasonable amount of elevation gain can be expected. A circuit of Loughrigg Fell is an example of a trail run. This is 10km and has around 300m of ascent.

Alongside my mountaineering skills and qualifications (see about us) I am a UKA/FRA Fell Running coach. I have run and raced for many years starting with road and cross country as a member of Wilmslow RC but quickly found enjoyment in running on trails and fells. I have lived in Ambleside for 16 years and am a member of Ambleside AC one of the top fell-running clubs in the country. I am one of the founder coaches of Ambleside AC’s successful junior section coaching the children every week on Loughrigg fell. I also captained the ladies team in 2013, one of several years they won the British and English fell running Championships and have been part of the successful Vets team for several years. I spend the winter months in Spain and so get to enjoy running in the beautiful mountains of Costa Blanca! We occasionally use other local running guides. All are regular fell runners and will be qualified in mountain craft as well as 1st aiders.
