3 - 4 hours Summary: From Ambleside we head through Rothay park, admiring the sculptures as we go. Crossing the river Rothay allows us access onto Loughrigg Fell, a rambling fell, with many false summits. Our route will be tailored to suit, but may include a visit to Lily tarn or Loughrigg tarn (or both) before reaching the summit and unrivalled views of the Langdale Pikes, Grasmere & Rydal water. We return to Ambleside via Loughrigg terrace – cave exploration at Rydal cave is optional! Although Loughrigg is one of the smaller Lakeland fells, it is not to be under-estimated, some ascents / descents are steep. Paths are always good though. |
