On the narrow road from Keswick to Buttermere is the Newlands valley and it is here we find this gem.
This one is a bit different as we go downstream. If staying in the Keswick area this is the one to try as it’s really close by and tons of fun for all ages 5+. Parking is on open land with gorgeous views, this parking is limited so arrive early and please park considerately. There are no facilities here or nearby, so come prepared.
An uphill approach walk of about 15 minutes reaches the start of this wonderful adventure through a narrow ravine. A series of waterslides provides loads of fun and depending on water levels there can be a couple of jumps to enjoy too. But it’s really all about the slides. We advise this as best for families with youngsters and it’s a great first gorge.
A descent of Stoneycroft Ghyll will take around 1.5 – 2 hours in the water.
We offer Gorge Scrambling at this venue from the end of March until the end of October.
Equipment
To help ensure our customers enjoy the best experience
when Gorge Scrambling with us, we have invested in top quality wetsuits. These are 5mm full body suits. For colder days we also have additional 3mm over-jackets giving 8mm of neoprene insulation to the upper body. We don’t usually offer cagoule type jackets as whilst these do help a little on windy days, they are quite a hindrance when in the water and they usually fill with water straight away. We also provide standard safety equipment including a helmet, buoyancy aid, 1st aid kit and anything else deemed necessary.
