Hodge Close Quarry - Abseiling in the Lake District
Abseiling in the Lake District
At the weekend we had a last minute booking for an Abseil. Emma & Carl were on a short break up to the Lakes and the provider they had originally booked with had unfortunately cancelled on them at short notice. Emma got in touch with us and thankfully we were able to step in and all worked out perfectly.
We met up in the early afternoon of Saturday, just as. the rain was moving on, so we had little more than a few light showers before the sun came out. Hodge Close Quarry was our chosen venue, this working very well for Emma & Carl as it was on their way to their accommodation for the night. The quarry was quiet, us being the only people abseiling. The slate glistened in the afternoon sun and the deep pool in the quarry was nicely lit with rays from the sun.
Abseiling was something both had some previous experience of, but it had been a long time ago, so all felt very new. Even so, despite the wet rock, both cruised over the edge and down the big wall in total control. No hesitation, no slips, just focus and control all the way. After some exploring in the quarry they came back for more, this time I set their abseil devices up to enable great speed should they want it (both did) and they flew down the wall.
After climbing out of the quarry for a second time, they were ready to call it a day and head to Coniston to check in for the evening.
Thanks both for joining us on this, lovely to meet you both.
