Mountain Journeys

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I fit enough for.....?

Mountain walks...

A decent level of fitness is needed for these walks. The day will consist of approximately 5 - 9 hours of mountain walking. You need to feel comfortable carrying a small day-sack and walking for extended periods. The weather here can sometimes be a little wild too, this adds to the experience but can be tiring too!

Family adventure days...

These days consist of a good mix of activities and provide plenty of natural rest opportunities. Whilst they are physically demanding at times, they are never overly strenuous. We will usually be out for 5 - 6 hours.

Rock climbing / Scrambling...

These half or full days require a reasonable level of general fitness. It's not all about upper body strength, most climbing actually comes from the legs, so doesn't need to be tiring, honest! Arriving at the crags does require some uphill walking too, think of it as a warm-up.

Abseiling...

Gorge scrambling...

The walks to each venue are short and easy. Once in the gorge we do move at a fairly steady pace (although it can feel quick). A good general level of fitness is recommended.

Winter mountain days...

These are tough and physically demanding days requiring a high level of fitness and stamina.

Where do we meet?

This is flexible and will be to suit you. We often meet clients in Ambleside (see map), or if staying nearby we may arrange to meet at your accommodation.

Do we need to bring food & drink?

Yes. Please bring at least one litre of water per person and a packed lunch & snacks. During the cooler months you may wish to bring a flask of something hot: tea / coffee / hot chocolate / hot juice all work well.

What clothing should I wear?

Please see ‘Kit list for mountain and Gorge Activities’.

What if we need to cancel?

We will do our best to find another suitable date that’s convenient for you. Should this not be possible we will offer a full refund (minus an administration fee) if you provide us with at least 30 days notice. Less than 30 days notice and we may observe the right to retain any deposit towards the activity. In the unlikely event we need to cancel an activity, an alternative date or full refund will be offered.
