#adventure-days-lake-districtCanyoning extravaganza

The sport of canyoning has been pretty big throughout Europe for many years now, but here in the UK it is still a relatively new thing. There are more and more amazing canyoning venues being found all the time and we are keeping on top of this with our explorations and developments here in the Lake District.

We have been offering a couple of canyoning venues for a few years now, the biggest being the Esk Gorge and details of this can be found here. Don't pass this one by, it is utterly amazing. The canyon descent of Church Beck has been a regular for us for a while too, this along with two more recently explored venues are detailed below:

The Coniston challenge, Church Beck - Upper section:
This is an ideal introduction to the sport of canyoning as it shows off all that is great about it whilst not being too long or committing. There are waterfall abseils, swims, jumps into deep water, and slides into pools.
A sense of adventure and a like of water are must haves for this and all of our canyon trips. If you don't like water we offer plenty of dry land activities and would encourage you to try those out.

Example itinerary: meet around 10am, get the wetsuits on, have a safety briefing and walk to the top of the canyon. The approach walk is about 15 minutes. We will be in the water for up to 2 hours (depending on group size). It is an absolute blast, so much fun all the way. We exit the canyon much lower so the walk back is shorter and easier. Finish about 1pm.

Who is it for?
Ok for beginners with a sense of adventure
Over 14's (all under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian)
Those wanting a shorter session in a convenient location

Price:
Based on 4 participants is £35pp
Based on 2 participants is £45pp

Hells Gorge, Langdale valley:
Deep in the Langdale valley, hidden from view and in a wild setting. This is also a good introductory canyon trip, especially so as it is escapable with ease. We combine a canyon descent with some Gorge scrambling (going upstream). The main event is a massive waterfall, standing at 40 metres and dropping into a huge, crystal clear pool, it's one to remember and super photogenic. You'll be pleased to hear there is a 'warm-up' waterfall descent ahead of the big one. It is bound to be a big buzz, but it isn't over just yet, we continue down the canyon, moving freely over the boulder strewn bed, engaging with challenges as they arrive, to reach a small footbridge and exit here.

Example itinerary: meet at 10am, get on the wetsuits, then have a safety briefing before walking to the top of the canyon. The approach walk will take about 30 minutes, we may divert into an en-route gorge for some preliminary fun and splashing around too. After about 1.5 hours in the water we exit at the bottom for an easy walk of about 20 minutes back to base to finish for about 1pm.

Must be ok with heights

The Lakeland Extreme:
This is the next level and a new addition for 2020, so we are super pleased and excited to be able to offer this adventurous trip. The descent consists of multiple technical abseils through a narrow canyon with fast flowing water. We abseil straight down the waterfalls and will swim through deep pools in a truly gorgeous environment. As with all our activities, we will be on hand to help throughout this amazing adventure, but we do ask that all participants must feel comfortable in deep water, in confined spaces, and at height. Once we start, we are committed for the duration! Come prepared for an exceptional adventure and wild day out, leave us with a massive smile upon your face.
The exact location of this one will be revealed once you're booked on. It is easy to reach if staying in either Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, or Penrith.

Example itinerary: meet at 10am and get on the wetsuits. We then have a safety briefing before walking up to the top of the canyon, this will take about 45 minutes and involves some steep sections of path. We will be in the canyon for between 4-5 hours and in the water the whole time. We exit much lower down and enjoy an easy walk back to the roadside arriving back around 4pm

Who is it for?
Adults only
This is a mentally & physically demanding day, so please only book this trip if you are fit, very active, and up for the challenge
Adventure and adrenaline seekers with previous experience of either rock climbing, abseiling, or gorge scrambling
You need to be resilient to the cold

Price:
Based on 4 participants is £75pp
Based on 2 participants is £125pp
The price for this trip is higher due to our additional staffing costs and technical nature of the canyon. We will always provide 2 experienced guides for this venue, even for a solo participant. It's just that kind of place! Your safety and enjoyment is our priority.
