First up is Goat's crag in Borrowdale. Access is from the Watendlath road and just 20 minutes to reach the base. With a superb outlook, clean rock and good picnic spots nearby this is certainly one we'll be heading back too. The climbing ranges from easy slab routes right up into fierce 'E' grades, so something to keep most happy. Summertime could see the bracken make the approach walk a little more of a challenge, so think of it as a spring & autumn venue.
The second crag is Snail Shell and this can be found on the eastern slopes of Carrock Fell. An easy 10 - 15 minutes gets us to the base of the crag. Nice flat spaces at the base are perfect for picnics and enjoying the view. The rock is Gabbro and this lives up to its reputation of being supper sticky, almost glue like friction and very solid. Protection is lacking on some of the routes, but on the more difficult climbs there's sufficient gear for lead climbing. We managed 9 routes here, with every one of them being enjoyable.
