Having done numerous challenge events together, including: Welsh 3000's and Lakeland 3000's it was now time for something a little different.
During a walk last year, we stopped off at the remote Black Sail YHA in Ennerdale. We enjoyed a cup of tea and piece of cake and during our brief stop it was mentioned that maybe we incorporate a stay here into one of our challenge walks.
So starting at Bowness Knott, we traversed the ridge on the North side of Ennerdale Water taking in the summits of: Herds; Great Bourne; Starling Dodd; Red Pike; High Stile; High Crag; Seat; Hay Stacks; Brandreth; and Green Gable before descending into the valley and the Black Sail YHA - home for the night.
Along with our fellow guests, we were served with a hearty 3 course meal and enjoyed wine and beer too. A game of Scrabble before an early night.
Morning brought a fine day and a fine cooked breakfast.
Today we climbed: Pillar; Scoat Fell; Haycock; Caw Fell; and Crag Fell before once more descending to the valley and back to civilisation.
Around 23 miles and 7500 feet of ascent and descent taking in some of the finest and quietest fells the Lake District has too offer, all in the company of three lovely ladies. What's not to like about days like this :-)
Thanks again to Kim, Barbara, and Julia - perfect company as always. Thanks also to Nina at Beckfoot Retreat B&B, Ennerdale Bridge where I stayed the night before. Nina is the perfect hostess and cooks an amazing breakfast. If you're ever looking for accommodation in the Ennerdale area Beckfoot is 'the' place to stay. I even got a lift to and from the pub!
