Short stay Multi activity holiday, Costa Blanca

Bernia-ridge-Costa-Blanca

Bernia ridge scramble

Over the weekend and for the early part of this week, we have been joined by returning client Soo from South Wales. After climbing with us back in the UK, Soo decided on a trip to the Costa Blanca back in March. Then we spent a few days climbing on the Toix and Echo valley crags.
Back for 3 more days of activities before taking in the cultural highlights of Alicante, Soo was keen to climb more and explore the area.

We began at Murla, one of the local crags. Routes here are short and intense. A couple of grade 3’s to warm up, but quite soon it was 6a’s getting climbed, with Soo doing all the leading. 13 routes in total today. We had the whole crag to ourselves too.

For Tuesday, the plan had been to traverse the Bernia ridge, however the weather looked more unsettled then, so we moved this forward to Monday, and the weather was typically stunning. Setting off from the Bernia restaurant shortly after 9am we were able to enjoy a shaded approach walk along the base of the north side of this magnificent ridge. Once at the Forat (hole in the ridge), Soo went to explore this whilst I sorted the climbing gear out. From here upwards we were on graded scrambling and climbing terrain. Thankfully the final scramble to gain the ridge was also benefitting from shade, so we remained nice and cool, once on the crest the full hit of the sun was upon us, it felt brilliant. Views along the coast from here are simply breathtaking.
We moved efficiently along the ridge, employing the rope wherever necessary, but mostly moving freely as individuals. We saw nobody else until we started our descent, 2 walkers had been to sign the ridge book. A fun and rapid scree run descent brought us back onto the main path for the final walk back to the car.

As predicted, the weather was a little more unsettled today. We had planned a walk from the nearby village of Fleix, and this proved to be the perfect damp day activity. Following a route through the ancient terraces and passing a Forat, we descended to the Rio Girona, this part of the walk is unbelievably spectacular and well worth doing. We then followed the dry river bed upstream towards the Barranco del Infierno, before ascending a narrow path to the right, passing impressive canyon scenery all the way up to Benimaurell. From here it’s an easy walk back to Fleix. Whilst today the weather had been damp in the morning, this was soon replaced with warm sunshine more typical of the area.

A varied and full 3 days of multi-activity on the Costa Blanca for Soo.

If you’re looking for an action packed holiday or short break here in Spain, give us a call / email and let’s make it happen. Rock climbing, mountain walking, scrambling, canyoning, and via ferrata.

Thanks
