Exploring the Costa Blanca – Rock, canyon, & footpath

It's been an interesting and varied few days out here on the Costa Blanca.

Rain stopped play for a day, so an enforced rest was enjoyed and muscles rested.

Friends Lynn, Sam, and Colin decided to allow the crags a little extra time to dry out and went to explore the dramatic Barranco del Infierno. This was a first for all of them so adventure levels were running high!

Me & Kim walked with them to the canyon entrance and watched them set off. We then climbed out the far side of the canyon and followed well made (but steep) paths the hamlet of Benimaurell. This quaint little place took us back in time, there was an air of calm all around. However, perhaps it was slightly too relaxing a place, for all the cafes were closed!

We continued our walk back to our start point, the village of Fleix. Thankfully here we did find one cafe open and at least willing to serve of fine cafe con leche.

We waited for the others to return from the canyon, but heard nothing for quite some time. The day was drawing on and soon it would be dark, I for one was concerned for my friends. We tried to make contact numerous times and was eventually successful. Thankfully all was well and they were on their way out, phew! This was our cue to head back to Calpe and begin preparations for the following day.

On Wednesday Edd, Nicola, Jules, Chris, Genevieve, and Lauren arrived for an action packed week of rock climbing and canyoning. Even after the very early start, all were keen to get out on the crags and climb this afternoon. We climbed a few routes at Toix and everyone warmed to the rock very well. It's hard not too though, sun on your back, sea below, warm limestone, good company, bliss 🙂

Tomorrow we're to head inland to the Echo valley crags where hopefully some of the team will begin their lead climbing days.

Thanks everyone for a brilliant few days, here's to many more.
